class='wp_fbs_top'>

There is only one more year to go until the new European law on tyre pressure monitoring systems will become effective requiring tyre pressure monitoring systems for all new passenger cars. As this law will become effective in 2012 we are wondering: why only new vehicles?
What is good for new cars cannot be bad for a faithful used one, can it?

Therefore we are offering electronic tyre pressure monitoring systems for fast and easy retrofit.

Most tyre pressure monitoring systems are measuring inside the tyre – either mounted on the rim or at the valve stem. TireMoni measures at the valve. The sensor is screwed onto the valve in place of the valve cap and it is best mounted on metal valves for optimal stability.
Now you get a reading of your tyres’ pressures and temperatures inisde the car. Moreover the system will give you a warning when tyre pressure is below lower or above upper limits and those limits are user-defined and can be easily set.

Not only are petrol savings, driving comfort, corner safety, optimum breaking characteristics, winter handling and increased tyre life good arguments – but also the feeling to actively improve ones safety is a good one.

<a

Only in 5% of all cases will a tyre blow out by direct external influence while 95% of all tyre incidents are preceded by a slow puncture and pressure loss.

With a TireMoni tyre pressure monitoring system installed and operational, those incidents can be measured, recognized and eliminated.

Especially in the wintertime a tyre puncture is very annoying. The spare tyre – if there is one left in the car – is in most cases not suited for winter driving and the weather makes changing a tyre a dirty business.

We have repeatedly been hearing comments like: “I dont need a tpms, I have never had a puncture.” We think that this is a very shortsighted argument as it misses out on all other advantages of a well maintained tyre pressure: petrol savings, improved driving safety, improved handling, reduced tyre wear, etc…

Please apologize if we sometimes sound like the preachers of HIV prevention and contraception…

Get TireMoni in the <a

That is: every fourth to fifth tankful is consumed only to overcome rolling resistance. Remarkable: Up to about 60 mph rolling resistance is larger than aerodynamic resistance of a vehicle!

Properties and quality of a tyre therefore have a great influence on petrol consumption and thus on petrol cost. Naturally rolling resistance can never be eliminated altogether – a reduction by 30 percent however can be achieved with low-rolling-resistance tyres; this resembles a reduction in petrol consumption by about 5%. A good reason to ponder using such tyres.

How is rolling resistance created? If you ever tried to push a stroller on a sandy beach, you have experienced an extreme example of high rolling resistance. And how much energy is required to overcome it. In a car rolling resistance becomes noticeable like this: the tyres of a vehicle are being deformed in each wheel rotation by the weight of the vehicle. The tyre adheres to the road with its road tread surface, which dissipates energy.”

Rolling resistance is optimized by employing the right tyre pressure. Too low a tyre pressure will lead to increased rolling resistance and petrol consumption and tyre tread wear also in low-rolling-resistance tyres.

Therefore,

The right tyre pressure optimizes your tyres performance and your petrol consumption and it improves your safety. By correctly adjusting tyre pressure the driver can influence driving comfort, durability and mileage of the tyres and accomodate his vehicles requirements and driving quality.

Cost effective vehicle manufacturing often saves on suspension comfort and replaces traditional suspension capabilities with tyre elasticity. Road tread and tyre side walls are bending where the tyres’ tread contacts the road. Usind the right tyre pressure prevents excessivley bending the side walls and the tread. Heat accumulation is prevented and rolling resistance is optimized.

The right tyre pressure also stabilizes the tyre. Tyre structure and rubber composition define its reactivity, traction and handling.

Even technically outstanding tyres can only work at their best, if the tyre pressure is at the right level.

Therefore <a

There is plenty of opportunity nowadays to regulate our energy demand to our own advantage.

An electronic tyre pressure monitoring system is one such possibility.

Year by year millions of liters of fuel are converted into warm tyres and just because the pressure in those tyres is too low. This increases their rolling resistance and tyres are getting hot.

Not to mention the many tyres that are worn much too fast due to underinflation.

In the engines themselves we can do very little to reduce fuel consumption, this is true for combustion engines as well as for electric cars.

With tyres we have a realistic chance. By optimising rolling resistance with the correct tyre pressure we can take charge and act to our advantage. Everyone for their own benefit.

It pays to drive with an electronic tyre pressure monitoring system:

Everyone seems to talk about low-rolling resistance tyres and if you read and listen to what’s written and said, you could easily get the impression that thes new technology will be the answer to any (environmental-, pollution-, traffic-, noise-, cost-, …) problem that there is.

What is easily forgotten within all the hype is this: even a low-rolling resistance tyre is a tyre by its nature and it will behave like one.
Goodyear has published a fine and interesting information bulletin with the title: “Factors Affecting Truck Fuel Economy” – and its findings are not only relevant for truck tyres.
It shows which factors are affecting fuel consumption in trucks in which ways and it clearly demonstrates, which measures actually show effects and why.
Result: 10% lower rolling-resistance means 3% less fuel consumption.

What is clearly stated however is the fact that even low-rolling resistance tyres are subject to the laws of Physics: When driven with the wrong tyre pressure, fuel consumption increases by up to 5% and tyre life is drastically reduced.
In other words: A low-rolling resistance tyre provides its advantages only if used with the correct tyre pressure.

Says Goodyear: “… Most of the gains in fuel efficiency can be obtained from the tread of the tire, (…). Research shows that the tread contributes to over half of
the rolling resistance. It is important to keep tires properly inflated so that the strength of the tire is not compromised. Fuel economy falls off sharply when tires are underinflated.”

The subtitle of the German brochure states: “Because not all tyres are the same” …
If a tyre’s pressure is not monitored and maintained, all tyres behave in the same way: rolling resistance increases and fuel consumption (and tyre wear and environmental pollution and noise emissions and…) increases; at the same time driving safety is reduced.

So here is our conclusion: Yes! Low-rolling resistance tyres are really better… if the tyre pressure is correctly set and maintained.

And as we all know from Control Engineering: Only a parameter that is known (i.e. measured/controlled/made visible) can be influenced meaningfully; TireMoni shows all your tyre pressures with only one look.

The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System TireMoni TM-260 is mainly used in motorhomes and caravans where it can be retrofitted fast and easily. It can monitor 4 to 10 wheels per system; tyre pressure values are permanently shown on the display device in the vehicle cockpit – when anyone of the user-configurable thresholds is triggered, the driver immediately gets a warning.

The sensors are small and their weight is only 10 g; they allow fast and easy retrofitting to metal valves – balancing the wheels is not required with the large motorhome wheels.

Due to their small dimensions and the low weight however the sensors don’t provide sufficient range in some cases where the motorhome is big (nuilt on truck chassis). One battery lasts for approx. 50,000 km driving distance.

This means that for trucks with yearly driving distances of up to 200,000 km these systems are not really suitable – who wants to change sensor batteries 4 times per year – even if the extremely small weight is really convincing for the application.

For large motorhomes however – which are rarely seeing these huge yearly driving distances – the advantages of the small and lightweight sensors prevail.

To accomodate the range requirements of larger vehicles, we are now offering a booster/radio amplifier, which amplifies sensor signal so that transmission is safe in any case. With this little add-on system range is then sufficient even for large motorhomes plus trailer.

The booster will be installed underside the vehicle or trailer and connected to the vehicle supply wiring. It collects all radio signals from the sensors, amplifies them by a factor of 10 and then re-transmits to the receiver/display in the vehicle cockpit.

The booster can be combined with any TireMoni Tyre Pressure Monitoring System; initialisation or programming is not required. Thus it can be seamlessly retrofitted into existing systems where range improvements are desirable.

If you don’t know the correct tyre pressure for your vehicle, you can always look it up in a tyre pressure chart. Tyre manufacturers are listing their recommended tyre pressure in those charts.

It can make sense to adjust tyre pressure to your own driving characteristics and to experiment a little. The optimal pressure for the tyres of a vehicle dpends on many factors, among them vehicle load and speed and also the individual driving style. Drivers who are using a pressure chart to find the correct tyre pressure are demonstrating that they care for the safety function of their tyres.

The tyre industy is helping, too with the development of ‘intelligent’ tyres. While tyres will never be intelligent – in the sense of the word – they will eventually be able to deliver a multitude of data covering date of manufacturing, materials, distance used and more. This data is stored in a small chip, which is located in the rubber of the tyre. Maybe such a chip will in the future also be able to monitor temperature and pressure in the tyre. Today it cannot yet do this.

This is why tpm-systems AG has created their intelligent tyre pressure monitoring system TireMoni which allows monitoring the current tyre pressure while driving. The system is very useful, for it informs the driver about current tyre pressure and temperature at all times. The system warns immediately when pressure changes so that the driver has an opportunity to react long before any damage to the tyre can happen.

Tyres with low pressure start milling, consequently getting hot and finally blowing up. Drivers should do everything to prevent this situation. The driver might lose control over the vehicle and oftentimes such blowouts are causing an accident, too.

Thanks to the evolution of the tyre industry modern tyres are so good that tyre blowouts should be a thing of the past. If a vehicle tyre is maintained and looked after, it will perform safely and do its service as a matter of course.

In almost 95% of those cases where a tyre puncture or blowout causes an accident, this happens due to low tyre pressure. Who would check his tyre pressure on every stop at the petrol station? You don’t either? Then you might want to consider <a
